Dynamical collective potential energy landscape: its impact on the competition between fusion and quasi-fission in a heavy fusing system

چکیده
Abstract. A realistic microscopically-based quantum approach to the competition between fusion and quasi-fission in a heavy fusing system is applied to several reactions leading to 256No. Fusion and quasi-fission are described in terms of a diffusion process of nuclear shapes through a dynamical collective potential energy landscape which is initially diabatic and gradually becomes adiabatic. The microscopic ingredients of the theory are obtained with a realistic two-center shell model based on Woods-Saxon potentials. The results indicate that (i) the diabatic effects play a very important role in the onset of fusion hindrance for heavy systems, and (ii) very asymmetric reactions induced by closed shell nuclei seem to be the best suited to synthesize the heaviest compound nuclei.

Theory of competition between fusion and quasi-fission in a heavy fusing system
A theory of the competition between fusion and quasi-fission in a heavy fusing system is proposed, which is based on a master equation and the two-center shell model. Fusion and quasi-fission arise from a diffusion process in an ensemble of nuclear shapes evolving towards the thermal equilibrium. The master equation describes the diffusion of the nuclear shapes due to quantum and thermal fluctu...
متن کاملDynamical approach to heavy ion-induced fission
Deep inelastic collisions (DICs) can compete strongly with fusion in collisions of heavy nuclei. However, standard coupled-channels calculations do not take DIC process into account. As a result, calculations have been shown to overestimate the fusion cross-section and thus lead to a discrepancy between experimental data and theoretical calculations, particularly at energies above the fusion ba...
متن کاملInfluence of the potential energy landscape on the fission dynamics
A state-of-the-art three-dimensional Langevin approach is used to explore the influence of the potential-energy surface on the dynamical evolution of a system along its path to fission. Two macroscopic models have been used to parametrize the energy landscape: the Finite Range Liquid Drop Model (FRLDM) [1] and the Lublin-Strasbourg Drop (LSD) model [2]. The former is commonly used for the descr...
متن کاملQuantum microscopic approach to low-energy heavy ion collisions
The Time-dependent Hartree-Fock (TDHF) theory is applied to the study of heavy ion collisions at energies around the Coulomb barrier. The competition between fusion and nucleon transfer mechanisms is investigated. For intermediate mass systems such as O+Pb, proton transfer favors fusion by reducing the Coulomb repulsion. A comparison with sub-barrier transfer experimental data shows that pairin...
متن کاملCollective clusterization effects in light heavy ion reactions
The collective clusterization process, proposed for intermediate mass fragments (IMFs, 4<A≤28, 2<Z≤14) emitted from the hot and rotating compound nuclei formed in low energy reactions, is extended further to include also the emission of light particles (LPs, A≤4, Z≤2) from the fusion-evaporation residues. Both the LPs and IMFs are treated as the dynamical collective mass motion of preformed clu...
